Good luck … my guess is that since you are a musician, you have some idea of the requirements are of recording sound with such a wide range of sound levels.
When you mic your band, you are probably using mics that cost over 0 each … to think you can find a 0 camera with a tiny mic with NO dynamic range is having some unrealistic expectations. You will not find any video camera that can do the job under about ,000 plus the cost of a decent microphone.

the nikon p60 is awesome for videos, great quality but sucks at everything else!!! is normally 199, but you can get it on sale for 99-119 at officemax all the time, nikon is pretty good because of their lens, the nikon s550 is ok but it has this annoying beepin feature when you leave the autofocus on and it wont stop until its completely focused but even with a tripod it will still beep on me, idk why but you can turn that feature off but then you have to set it on the manual, however the sond could be so much better, it comes off kind of stuffy nose-ish but ive never recorded music on my camera before, excuse me i mean ive never recorded live music, music playback seems to be ok but never recorded it live on the nikons
-sony has a few cameras that have the hd video recording capability that actually works pretty good considering its a sony, probaby wont be under 150 but maybe when it goes on sale u can try but i think most are at 200 or so, but they arent sturdy, they break easy,
-canon is a great camera however most of them lack focus when zooming in during the video format, which is a shame because they take great pictures!
-kodak just bombs completely, their hd isnt even that great on playback, idk how its like when you transfer it to your computer but they have horrible quality when watching it on the display and for some weird reason their display always has little dots and lines with kind of bugs me because then you cant really see how the image truly looks like
-olympus is ok, better than canon on video recording as far as focus goes, but i havent used to many olympus cameras for the video recording feature
officemax has a lot great sales when it come to cameras, check them out as well as walmart, try signing up as a maxperks customer, they send coupons like $10 off 20, 15 off 50, or 30 off 120 or 150, alot and u get special deals sometimes or get reward dollars back that u can use at their store, they usually send those money coupons once every 3 months or so
