Q&A: Do modern canon rebel lenses work with 35mm cameras?
Question by : Do modern canon rebel lenses work with 35mm cameras?
I have one canon EOS rebel XS (digital; dslr). Since I am very into photography, a friend of mine offered me his 35mm film canon rebel (EOS rebel 2000 slr). Will the lenses for the digital version work with the film version? Or do I have to buy new lenses?

Any Canon camera with EOS in its name will take the same EF mount lenses.
However, there is a wrinkle. Lots of the DSLRs came with lenses with a special EF-S mount. These protrude into the camera body and so will only work with the smaller mirrors in a DSLR.
You might not be able to use all of your DSLR’s lenses with the Rebel 2000, but you will be able to use the 2000′s lenses with your XS.
In summary:
EF works with all EOS cameras
EF-S only works with crop-sensor DSLRs.
